Peter Poyntz-Wright
Peter Poyntz-Wright was educated at Downside and did his National Service in the Somerset Light Infantry before working in industry for 18 years and then embarking on a career in education teaching History and Humanities for a further 19 years.
His interests have been mainly in archaeology, sixteen seasons excavating at Glastonbury Abbey plus numerous other sites, and also Mediaeval Architecture in which he obtained a Master’s Degree from Bath University in 1977.
Peter has written several books including The Battle of Hastings, the Church Towers of Somerset, The Rural Benchends of Somerset and Hunky Punks.
He lectures widely on various topics from The Battle of Hastings and The Bayeux Tapestry to Mosaics of St. Mark’s, Somerset Churches and the great French Cathedrals of Northern France. He also conducts private tours to Castles of North and South Wales, Abbeys of Yorkshire, Normandy, Bruges, Ireland, Florence and Venice.
